The steps of a good and righteous man are directed and established by the Lord. And He delights in his way and blesses his path. When he falls, he will not be hurled down. Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand and sustains him.

What is required of us as the way to which our happiness can become in the Lord by the directions that is given to us if we would be blessed of Him. God will direct and dispose of our actions and affairs so as it may be the most for his glory. Psa37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. By his grace and Holy Spirit he directs the thoughts, affections, and designs of very good man. He has all of our hearts in his hand which is only theirs by our own consent.
God orders the steps of a good man; not only his way in general, but by his written word, but his particular steps, by the whispers of conscience, saying, this is the way, walk in it. Isa30:21 And thy ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. He does not always show him his way at a distance, but leads him step by step, as children are led by a parent, and so it keeps him in a continual dependence upon his guidance.
Because he delights in his way, and is well pleased with the paths of righteousness wherein he walks. Pro 3:4-5 So shall thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.Trust in the LORD with all thy heart; and lean not unto thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Psa1:6 The Lord knows the way of the righteous, he knows it with favor, and therefore directs it that he may be delight in his way. God orders our way according to his own will, this is why Jesus told us in Matt 6:10 pray Your kingdom come, Your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven, therefore he will be delights in us; for, as he loves his own image upon us, so he is well pleased with what we do under his guidance.
Pro 20:24 Man's goings are of the Lord; how can a man then understand his own way? 1Jn 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hear and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. We also should say if the Lord's will we will do such, and such. 1Pe 2:15For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
The will of God is, to a good man, the strongest reason for any duty.Obedience to magistrates is a considerable branch of a Christian's duty: So is the will of God as to a Christian must endeavor, in all relations, to behave himself so as to put to silence the unreasonable reproaches of the most ignorant and foolish men. Those who speak against religion and religious people are ignorant and foolish.
He reminds them of the spiritual nature of Christian liberty to prevent their mistakes, the apostle tells the Christians that they were free, but from what? When he falls that he has the power to get up he is not bound. They were free spiritually from the bondage of sin and Satan, and the ceremonial law; but they must not make their Christian liberty a cloak or covering for any wickedness, or for the neglect of any duty towards God or towards their superiors, but must still remember they were the servants of God.
All the servants of Christ are free men Joh8:36 we are free from Satan dominion, the law's condemnation, the wrath of God, the uneasiness of duty, and the terrors of death. We who are the servants of Jesus Christ ought to be very careful not to abuse our Christian liberty and must not make it a cover or cloak for any wickedness against God or disobedience to superiors by walking in our own ways.
1Pe 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Good Christians are a sort of people called to be sufferers, and therefore they must expect it; by the terms of Christianity they are bound to deny themselves, and take up the cross; they are called by the commands of Christ, by the dispensations of Providence, and by the preparations of divine grace; and, by the practice of Jesus Christ, they are bound to suffer when thus called to it.Rom 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Deserved sufferings must be endured with patience: If you are buffeted for your faults, you must take it patiently. Sufferings in this world are not always pledges of our future happiness; if children or servants be rude and undutiful, and suffer for it, this will neither be acceptable with God nor procure the praise of men. The sufferings of Christ should quiet us under the most unjust and cruel sufferings we meet with in the world.
Christ suffered voluntarily, not for himself, but for us, with the utmost readiness, with perfect patience, from all quarters, and all this though he was God - man; shall not we sinners, who deserve the worst, submit to the light afflictions of this life, which work for us unspeakable advantages afterwards? The saints who are sufferings of this present time, it strike no deeper than the things of time, it last no longer than the present time for they are only light affliction, and but for a moment.
Psa34:19 Many are the affliction of the righteous, But the Lord delivers them out of them all. So that the sufferings we weighed in the balance are found light in the other words we puts in the glory, and finds that it is just a weight, an exceeding and eternal weight were we find his Glory that shall be revealed in our present state so we come not short, not only in the enjoyment, but in the knowledge of that glory which shall be revealed.
It surpasses all that we have yet seen and known the present are sweet and precious, but there is something to come, something behind the curtain, that will outshine all which shall be revealed in us; not only revealed to us, to be seen, but revealed in us, to be enjoyed. The kingdom of God is within you, and will be so to eternity. He concludes the sufferings not worthy to be compared with the glory. They cannot merit that glory; and, if suffering for Christ will not merit, much less will doing.
1Pe 4:15-17 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? Christians ought not only to be patient, but to rejoice, in their sharpest sorest sufferings for Christ, because they are tokens of divine favor; they promote the gospel and prepare for glory. Those who rejoice in their sufferings for Christ shall eternally triumph and rejoice with him in glory. Could now say that they are "SUSTAIN IN HIS HANDS" AMEN BE BLESSED!
