"THE WRAPPING CLOTHS" Luke 2:7 & John 20: 6-8

While they were there in Bethlehem, the time came for her to give birth, and she gave birth to her Son, her firstborn; and she wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no private room for them in the inn. Then Simon Peter came up, following him, and went into the tomb and saw the linen wrappings neatly lying there and the burial face-cloth which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the other linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself.

Here is the virgin Mary who was great with child that brought her to Bethlehem, to be delivered there, according to the prediction; whereas she was designed to lie in a stable in Nazareth. See how man purposes and God disposes; and how Providence orders all things for the fulfilling of the scripture, Mat 2:23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
This Jesus Christ who was of the seed of David; is what brings his mother to Bethlehem and also because she was of the stock and lineage of David? God promised the Savior’s birth immediately after mankind’s first sin in the Garden of Eden Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shall bruise his heel.
Hundreds of years later, the prophet Micah foretold the birth of Christ in the small town of Bethlehem: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times” Micah 5:2. This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus’ earthly parents, Mary and Joseph, were called to Bethlehem for a census of the entire Roman territory while they were in Bethlehem, the time came for Jesus to be born.
The circumstances of his birth, which were very meaning and under all possible marks of contempt.
He was indeed a first-born son; but it was a poor honor to be the first-born of such a poor woman as Mary was, who had no inheritance to which he might be entitled to as a first-born, but he was under some abasements in common with other children; he was wrapped in swaddling clothes, as other children that are when they are new-born, as if he could be bound, or a needed to be kept straight. He was under some abasements peculiar to himself which means to make or become less than.
When the Son of God came into our world, He was entrusted to responsible loving parents who sought to meet His every need. So Baby Jesus was wrapped in swaddling clothes according to the custom of the day, an action that showed the tender care and affection of His mother. We can assume from the fact that she swaddled the baby Jesus that was an attentive and loving mother.
The angel who spoke to the shepherds on the hillside mentions swaddling clothes as part of the sign to the shepherds that they had found the Messiah Luk 2:12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger wrapped in “swaddling clothes,” but this word is never used to refer to a burial cloth.
In the descriptions in the Gospels of Jesus’ burial, we see variations on the phrase “wrapped in linen cloth,” and the words are used for the binding. The swaddling clothes could prefigure of Jesus’ burial to suggest the beforehand, or foreshadow that which to come. Joh 20:6-7 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulcher and seeing the linen clothes lie, and the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
Observe the posture in which he found things in the sepulcher, Christ had left his grave-clothes behind him there; what clothes he appeared in to his disciples we are not told, but he never appeared in his grave-clothes, as ghosts are supposed to do no, he laid them aside because he arose to die no more;Rom 6:9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead dies no more, death no longer has dominion over Him.
Lazarus came out with his grave-clothes on as if he was to use them again; but Christ, rising to an immortal life, came out free from those in cumbrances because he was going to be clothed with the robes of glory, therefore he lays aside these rags wrapping cloths, for in the heavenly paradise there will be no more occasion for clothes like there was in the earthly.
The ascending Prophet Elijah dropped his mantle when he arose from the death of sin to the life of righteousness, we must leave our grave-clothes behind us and must put off all our corruptions. Christ left those in the grave, as it were, for our use if the grave be a bed to the saints, thus he hath sheeted that bed, and made it ready for us; and the napkin by itself is of use for the mourning survivors to wipe away our tears.
Mar 15:46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulcher which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulcher any one would rather choose to carry a dead body in its clothes than naked. Or, if those that were supposed to have stolen him would have left the grave-clothes behind, yet it cannot be supposed they should find leisure time to fold up the linen.
Joseph of Arimathea bought fine linen to wrap the body in, though in such a case old linen that had been worn might have been thought sufficient but this was in paying respects to Christ It becomes us to be generous, also and to serve him with the best that can be got, and not with that which can be got at the best hand. He took down the body, mangled and macerated as it was, and wrap it in this fine linen as a treasure of great worth.
The two Wrapping Clothes is all about Love. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. His son who came into the world then was wrap in a cloth from his Birth to Death, and Resurrected, back to the father for us.
Now as we can receive Christ into our lives we also can be as Zec3:3-4 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel. Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, “Take away the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said, “See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.” Let’s pull of the old worn out sinful clothes and put on the fine linen of righteous for we also are wrapped in a dirty cloth from our birth, Job14:1 Man who is born of a woman of few days and full of trouble.
Isa64:6 But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are like filthy rags; that needs to be clean and washed with the water of the word by Jesus Christ our Lord in order for us to see or enter the kingdom of God is the purpose of his coming. Rev 19:7-9 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he said unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he said unto me, These are the true sayings of God! This is the reason of the two "WRAPPING CLOTHS" AMEN ! “WISHING YOU A HAPPY BLESSED NEW YEAR"
