" YOU TO CAN LEAN ON HIM " JOHN 13:23 & 21:20 KJV

Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?”
.

Some say that it was the fashion in pass countries to sit at meat in a leaning posture, so that the second lay in the bosom of the first, and so on, which does not seem probable to me, for in such a posture as this they could neither eat nor drink conveniently; but, whether this was the case or not, John now leaned on Christ's bosom, and it seems to be an extraordinary expression of endearment used at this time. There are some of Christ's disciples whom he lays in his bosom, who have more free and intimate communion with him than others.
The Father loved the Son, and laid him in his bosom, and believers are in like manner one with Christ. This honor is for all saints who shall have shortly be in the bosom of Abraham. Those who lay themselves at Christ's feet, He will lay in his bosom. This type of leaning means to reclined on something or someone, we as the saints of God can also lean on Jesus today and receive help and comfort in time of need, we can lean and depend on Him and if we fall he will be there to pick us up.
Psa 37:23-24 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delight in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD uphold him with his hand. That God will direct and dispose of our actions and affairs so as may be most for his glory. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord by his grace and Holy Spirit he directs the thoughts, affections, and designs of good men. He has all hearts in his hand, but theirs by their own consent.
By his providence he overrules the events that concern them, so as to make their way plain before them, both what they should do and what they may expect. God orders the steps of a good man not only his way in general, by his written word, but his particular steps, by the whispers of conscience, saying, This is the way, walk in it. He does not always show him his way at a distance, but leads him step by step, as children are led, and so keeps him in a continual dependence upon his guidance
And this is because he delights in his way, and is well pleased with the paths of righteousness wherein he walks. The Lord knows the way of the righteous and knows it with favor and therefore directs it. That he may delight in his way because God orders his way according to his own will, therefore he delights in it, for as he loves his own image upon us, so he is well pleased with what we do under his guidance. That God will keep us from being ruined by our falls either into sin or into trouble.
Though one falls, he shall not be utterly cast down for a good man may be overtaken in a fault, but the grace of God shall recover him to repentance, so that he shall not be utterly cast down. Though he may for a time lose the joys of God's salvation, yet they shall be restored to him for God shall uphold him with his hand and uphold him with his free Spirit. The root shall be kept alive, though the leaf wither; and there will come a spring after the winter.
A good man may be in distress his affairs embarrassed, his spirits sunk, but he shall not be utterly cast down; God will be the strength of his heart when his flesh and heart fail, and will uphold him with his comforts, so that the spirit he has made shall not fail before him. There is a way of leaning toward God that is not good when you do it for wrong reason. Psa 106:15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul. Now how did God show his displeasure against them for this.
We are told how, He gave them their request we fine here that the children of Israel had forgot the great works of God in there time of need so they begin to complaint about what they did not have to eat so God gave it to them in anger, and with a curse, for he sent leanness into their soul; he filled them with uneasiness of mind, and terror of conscience, and a self-reproach, occasioned by their bodies being sick with the surfeit, such as sometimes drunkards experience after a great debauch.
What is asked in passion is often given in wrath, many that fare deliciously every day, and whose bodies are healthful and fat, have at the same time leanness in their souls no love to God, no thankfulness, no appetite to the bread of life, and then the soul must needs be lean. Those wretchedly forget themselves that feast their bodies and starve their souls. Then God gives the good things of this life in love, when with them he gives grace to glorify him in the use of them; for then the soul delights itself in fatness.
Isa55:2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfied not, hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Mic3:11 The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? None evil can come upon us. Though that which is wicked can never be consecrated by a zeal for the church, yet that which is sacred may be, and often is, desecrated, by the love of the world.
When men do that which in itself is good, but do it for filthy lucre, it loses its excellence and becomes an abomination both to God and man. Their vain presumption and carnal confidence notwithstanding. They lean upon the Lord, and because they are in profession, his people they think there is neither harm nor danger in these their wicked practices. Faith builds upon the Lord rests in him and relies upon him as the soul's foundation; presumption only leans upon the Lord.
They speak with a great deal of confidence, of their honor: Is not the Lord among us? Have we not the tokens of his presence with us in his temple, his ark, his lively oracles? It was true that the Lord was among them by his ordinances, and this puffed them up with pride but if they imagined that he was among them by his favor and love, they were mistaken: but it cheats the children of men who often put upon themselves to think they have God with them, when they have by their sin provoked him to depart from them they are confident of their own safety.
No evil can come upon us as many are rocked asleep in a fatal security by their church-privileges as if those would protect them in sin, and shelter them from punishment, which are really and will be the greatest aggravations both of their sin and of their punishment. If men's having the Lord among them will not restrain them from doing evil, it can never secure them from suffering evil for so doing and it is very absurd for sinners to think that their impudence will be their impunity.
Psa 145:14-15 The LORD uphold all that fall, and raise up all those that be bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou give them their meat in due season. There is a song that says; Jesus said you can lean on me I won't let you fall if you lean on me, I will carry your load if you lean on me I will bear your burdens I will won't let you fall ,He does all of this to them who is good to his own people in a special manner. First He supports those that are sinking, and it is his honor to help the weak. He upholds all that fall and in that though they fall they are not utterly cast down.
Many of the children of men are brought very low by sickness and other distresses, and seem ready to drop into the grave, and yet Providence wonderfully upholds them, raises them up, and says, Return, If all had died who once seemed dying, the world would have been very thin. Many of the children of God, who have been ready to fall into sin, to fall into despair, have experienced his goodness in preventing their falls, or recovering them speedily by his graces and comforts, so that, though they fell, they were not utterly cast down. If those who were bowed down by oppression and affliction are raised up, it was God that raised them. And with respect to all those that are heavy-laden under the burden of sin, if they come to Christ by faith he will ease them he will raise them. People of God "YOU TO CAN LEAN ON HIM" AMEN BE BLESSED!
